Mr. Wideman (Room 104) - Oct 28 - Nov 1

Welcome to November! Hopefully, everyone had an enjoyable Halloween and long weekend. Thank you to our families who sent treats for the students on Thursday. It was an exciting week, and we're looking forward to another one, with our Remembrance Day assembly concluding the week on Friday November 8 at 10:30am.

Or focus last week, and in previous weeks as well, has been on developing our understanding of computational thinking. Although typically applied when describing computer science based activities, computational thinking includes skills and approaches to learning that extend into all areas of the curriculum. Students in Room 104 have applied these skills in Language Arts, Math, and Science in order to take on problem solving activities and logic based challenges. We've worked to explain our thoughts and ideas with clarity and sequencing so that others can easily understand our perspectives as we share and collaborate.

Through working with computational thinking, Room 104 students have:

- broken down complex problems into smaller, manageable parts
- investigated for patterns to help with tasks
- used previous solutions to support further problem solving
- identified important details for solving problems, while eliminating details that aren't useful
- establishing steps and rules that could be followed in order to achieve the intended outcome
